5Great glass cutterDec 20, 2010
By Carolyn Osborne "co"
I am new to stained glass and I had struggled using the kind of glass cutter you get at one of the big box home improvement stores. I got this Toyo cutter and I was very quickly cutting the glass the lady at the glass store said was "too difficult" for a beginner to cut. Yes there are technique issues, but I see these as solvable over time. It was also surprisingly quickly shipped even at Christmas time.

I own 3 different style cutters, this one is my favorite. Makes a perfect score every time. Toyo makes great glass cutters.

Toyo's pistol grip cutter has been my favorite, and i've tried several.. easy to use, comfortable, nice cuts. i finally broke one after having it for 4 years.. definitely worth the money. yes, the end can 'twist and turn', as a previous reviewer said, but if you know what you are doing, it isn't a problem. use these exclusively for workshops.

3Oiling problemsJan 08, 2012
By Craig Witkowski
The cutter is easy to hold but a few of us in our stained glass class that purchased this model found that after some use the tip will not get oil. Removing the cutter head revealed a pump stem with a tiny wick that should get oil when pressed, that then transfers oil to the cutting wheel. The wick disintegrated so there's no contact with the wheel and it's not easily fixed as the wick is below a brass holding collar. We wind up having to dip the wheel in oil to do our cutting. Other reviews I have read indicated the wick dries out and takes quite a bit of priming to feed oil again.

5Go Toyo!May 30, 2011
By Kotasahn
My stained glass teacher has 20 years experience in the field and will only use a Toyo pistol grip glass cutter. I was hesitant to drop so much investment on a glass cutter when so many cheaper ones are available, but decided that my teacher knows what is best. Though I have not used other forms of glass cutters, I love the Toyo! Working with glass is much easier than I expected and, with proper instruction on holding/pressure/angles, I do not waste a lot of glass from bad scoring. Also, my teacher and I dip the glass cutters in a little bit of kerosene (and wipe off) instead of filling the cutter with oil. This way you have a nice cut, there is no oil all over your work, and the cutting tip remains in excellent shape.
